Force India is going full Merc B-Team by the looks of their front end. Looks nearly identical to the W10 of last year.

Mercedes are famous at setting a testing trap. They want to try and force Ferrari to match there pace or better it.Then mercedes know what they have in hand.Mercedes then drop off, then the false sense of security has been created for Ferrari and others. Not this time a steady approach is the formula.let Hamilton do purple sectors.
If we'd have topped the time-sheets on the first day, we'd start to believe there was hope, so let's accept the day for what it was...testing. And Charles was subbed for Seb at short notice, but he got plenty of laps racked up. Seems odd that our nose is so similar to last year when all the other teams have gone for thinner versions, hope this isn't another wrong direction. We'll see soon enough and better to keep a low profile for now and blitz them when it matters!
2020 cars over 1 sec quicker than last year.
Vettel 2019 - 1:18.161
Hamilton 2020 - 1:16.976

To the new folks here, just go back to the Singapore GP Friday practice thread, the usual suspects here were written Ferrari off, and even expected us to get out-qualified by the TR's and Mclaren's, then the whole picture changed the following day and Leclerc took commanding pole position.
Now, I expect Mercedes to be the car to beat, anything otherwise is wishful thinking. But I'm hoping the SF1000 turns out to be the car capable of beating the Mercedes juggernaut. But I'm not going to cry if Ferrari ends up at the bottom of the timing sheet in every single testing session, they should ignore all the noises coming from the outside and concentrate on ironing out all the issues they have faced and may yet to face, so they don't end up with another nasty surprise at Australia.
I might be totally wrong but I have this feeling Merc pushed a bit more than they usually do on day one. Maybe they were testing the PU ?? I know you wouldn't normally do it on the first day but considering all Ferrari powered cars sitting right at the bottom, it makes you wonder.
Today's speed trap: (via Albert Fabrega @AlbertFabrega)
Sainz 329 km/h
Verstappen 327
Latifi 320
Ricciardo 319
Hamilton 318
Kubica 317
Magnussen 317
Kvyat 317
Stroll 316
Bottas 316
Pérez 316
Russell 314
Giovinazzi 314
Ocon 311
Leclerc 307
So 2023 started off bad, but managed to claw back some lap time come end of the year. Lets hope SF24 will give us tifosi something to smile about.
Merc and RBR testing their new engines in different modes. Ferrari engine +/- the same as 2019 and fully tested last year. That's why lap times so different, i think.

307 kph could easily suggest he was lifting early. If Ferrari was running an engine mode that's 10 kph off the pace in the straights and still running a 1:18.2, I think that's pretty good. I highly doubt Ferrari is that draggy. The engine won't be any worse than 2019. I'd say Ferrari was holding back a lot on Day 1.
I'd say it was the opposite...Toto went to Stroll and said here is our car, we need to be sure our Princess has as much protection as possible. We cant fully trust Bottas anymore and need to be sure Lewis gets number 7. But that is just my wild imagination running ahaha

Oke guys I just had contact with my very very very secret source and it seems we have a hidden update!!!
Yes it's true we've added sandbags for the first time since long onto our car!
They will come of in Melbourne so they said .
Hero's come and go, but legends never die!

Ferrari was running low power engine modes & high fuel loads all day, according to our information. So lap times are not representative.
It's not how start but how you finish.
We had a car that could have won last year or been a lot closer we just had team mistakes and driver ones as well. We just need to keep on top of the errors and come out swinging. Ferrari doesn't like losing this is our year!
