Hamilton's win @ Bah rain is #74, and podium #136 ! He's 34 yrs. old. It will be a tough act to follow. Charles is 21 !! And with Ferrari! It could happen.
This number happens ONLY when you have a 5-6 year dominance. Otherwise its extremely difficult!!
FERRARI FOR EVER !!!!!!!
Just an update:
I thought you guys would like to know that the issue with Leclerc's engine has been confirmed to have been a faulty injector and apparently the PU didn't suffer any damages so it won't need changing for the Chinese GP (no penalties ;) )
yep
Ferrari: why did an injector on the Leclerc engine crash in Bahrain?
The indicted pieces have already been examined in Maranello. It seems that the 6-cylinder turbo has not been damaged and can be used in the Chinese GP. In Maranello they wonder what sent the Marelli injector into crisis, which has never given the least reliability problem.
The details that led to the problem that forced Charles Leclerc to reduce the pace in the final part of the Bahrain GP, while he was building the first historic victory over the Red Army, have already been examined by Maranello engineers.
Mattia Binotto, Ferrari team principal, had already said this after the scorching disappointment of Sunday that the technical problem was not derived from the hybrid power unit 064 system, but from a combustion problem to a cylinder. To be precise, the fourth of the 6-cylinder turbo.
At Giro 46 of the 57 planned at Sakhir an injector suddenly stopped bringing fuel into the cylinder with the planned multi-injections and Charles's engine lost well over a sixth of the power of the endothermic engine, we talk about something that surpasses abundantly 120 horses.
Because in addition to not helping to generate power, the "off" cylinder caused additional friction in the absence of gasoline and it went well that in the last few rounds it did not suffer damage, so much so that it can be used in free practice on the Chinese GP.
To all this we need to add the reduced electrical recharge of the ERS system: with less thrust of the turbine it was inevitable that the recharging of the MGU-H was inadequate compared to the previous laps, when the Monegasque was already traveling with a “safe” engine mapping of absolute tranquility, while in the early stages of the race, when Charles had to make up for the mistake in power, he almost used the full functionality of the power unit.
The total power loss, therefore, was significantly higher than the 120 horses mentioned above and Leclerc was very good at incorporating the indications given to him by the radio box wall by acting meticulously on the steering wheel-computer handles. .
Initially the capacity of the fuel was increased to the five functioning cylinders: on the one hand the engine was to be preserved so that the problem could not possibly be enlarged to another cylinder: in this condition Charles was able to keep a step on the '39 "That would have allowed him to fight for second place.
Too bad that the consumption of gasoline went out of parameters and with that pace the SF90 would have remained dry before the finish line, so it was decided, rightly, to move to a much more conservative mapping.
The question that Maranello's engineers ask is why the Magneti Marelli injector went into crisis, a detail that has never given the least problem to Ferrari engines.
The Scuderia has long used TJI “double anchor” type injectors which also incorporate the spark plug in the pre-chamber. It is a complex but always perfectly reliable realization. So what could have happened? Perhaps the use of Shell gasolines that are particularly “pushed” with molecules capable of giving more chemical power, but which perhaps put some components to a harder test.
All in all, beyond the scorching disappointment of Leclerc who saw his first F1 victory disappear with the second GP with the Rossa, Ferrari can look to the future with a certain optimism:
despite the serious technical problems, the Monegasque guy brought at home a podium that will be invaluable in the economy of the Championship.
And if no more surprises emerge, even the 6-cylinder Charles should have been saved, so once you replace the injector that went ko, everything should return to normal, avoiding that the third GP should already go to unit 2 .
Toto Wolff bets that Ferrari will reduce power in China to find reliability, while Mattia Binotto has ruled out this possibility. E sarā di nuovo sfida in pista… And it will be a challenge on the track again ...

FERRARI FOR EVER !!!!!!!
So they turned down leclaire power once he disobeyed team orders???? Hmm.. Lol
I'm sure most F1 fans would be aware that HAM's tally of victories and championships are mostly down to Merc's dominance in this turbo-hybrid era, he has also been very lucky throughout his reign. It will be very hard to beat what he has already achieved and I hope he never catches up with MS!
FFS. just listening to all the defaults and the back and forth then to find the right dial and push whatever buttons....jeeeezus!!!......I would've had a verbal meltdown on team radio. Then Leclerc collected himself. You just feel his hysteria at first, then frustration...then calms down (probably due to slowing down from the SC)

Remember guys. Last two seasons we started great and ended up collapsing. Maybe now the tables have finally turned. We can hope right?
Our strategies better be on point in 2019.
What I see is, you give Charles a good equipment and he is able to maximise its potential, and that is good news for Ferrari. Vettel be good next time.
So this meant the issue was that no fuel was supplied to a cylinder.. I hope it doest affect the logitivity of the engine
Both Renault cars went down with the same issues, MGU-K . What does that stand for? Does anyone here know?
Motor Generating Unit - Kinetic (same thing as KERS - Kinetic Energy Recovery System used in F1 since 2009)-->charges the batteries under braking...most reliable of the 2 given the manufacturers.
Motor Generating Unit - Heat (turbo) (introduced in 2014 now known as the Turbo Hybrid Era) - constantly charges the batteries

Already last year, Ferrari had startled his World Cup opponents with unexplained power spurts. For six races, the Ferrari drove the silver arrows on and off. Only from the GP Singapore, you were back on par. Not because Mercedes caught up, but because Ferrari subsided. The current performance advantage is not comparable to that of 2018. "Last year they took our time at the beginning of the straight. At the top speed we were back. Now they are faster everywhere. They hit us at the beginning of the straight with more power and in the second half because they do not shut down the MGU-K as early as we do. Our speed curve flattens off to the rear. The Ferrari continues to increase. "
Not the advantage of Ferrari in itself drives Mercedes's worry lines in the face, but its extent. "Whether chassis or engine: At our level, you only put in small steps. Therefore, it will be difficult to equalize such a huge backlog, "Wolff fears. Valtteri Bottas is already dreading Shanghai and Baku: "The straights are even longer and Ferrari's advantage could be even stronger."

I have the feeling, that out superiority in Bahrain, was not just down to out good pu,but that we have made a massively good aero efficient car.Everybody else was trying to make holes/vents for the heat, and we where running a pretty close cooling set up . And a rumor came up that in Aus ,our "problem " was that we underestimate how good is our cooling system that because we run the larger cover in the back end, we end up with too much cooling that the turbo wasn't working properly!!!!
Another "innovation " I read was that the air vent that is feeding the compressor ,before reaching the compressor it passes through the clutch so it compresses more!!!

cheeky from Mercedes....already trying to copy our front wing, although it's NOT as extreme as ours.....hopefully it DON'T work for them....
oh, and they tend to forget, that ONE cannot just copy or slap a front wing like ours on their car and expect it to work right away.....it's the whole car philosophy, how the car is designed to work with that particular wing from when it was built and designed in wind tunnel and CFD......but i'm sure Merc already know that.....LOLOLOL
So 2023 started off bad, but managed to claw back some lap time come end of the year. Lets hope SF24 will give us tifosi something to smile about.
Most journalists do not have a clue about aero, but still they write about aero like they are engineers. Some journalists were saying that Mercedes has less complicated and lower bargeboards. They actually have really intricate bargeboards, and they are not so high because the sidepods are not so high, the Ferrari has higher bargeboards are higher because the sidepods are higher. If Mercedes have higher bargeboards, they will disrupt the flow into the sidepods to the radiators. When the air hits the bargeboards, it reduce its velocity, and turning the air and letting it follow the path of the bargeboard and turning it, increasing drag. The redbull wing they were testing was not an outwash wing, they are testing a mercedes style wing.
