The “TomCat” devices (circled) were the result of looking indirectly for devices that would allow the team to create more downforce. A key player in this development was “Tomo”, hence the TomCat unofficial name for these devices. These devices moved more air into places that allowed rear downforce to be created (further back).

are those winglets so far in front still allowed as per 2019 rules?

Charles Leclerc is back in the Ferrari motorhome not looking particularly happy. That looks definitely like problems at Ferrari...#F1Testing #AMuS

I am pretty sure both Ferrari and Mercedes can dip into low to mid 1m15's if they want to.

yes, they are allowed as per 2019 rules. I expect others to follow suit. These are not new as in 2008 the cars went aero crazy due to more advanced CFD software and database storage memory.

yikes been in the pits since he went out again, woulda wished we sorted these out first week, maybe the track being normal temp today is revealing some weaknesses that the cold days last week hid away. Binotto better be up to the challenge

Kevin Magnussen has already done 77 laps. The Dane is now sitting comfortably in the car again. An interim solution was found for the cooling problems. The final version will be presented in Melbourne.
could be PU related? seems Haas had similar issues which they finding a solution to, could be why the new waste pipes have been reduced to one bigger one?

Only 20 laps, looks like repeat of earlier issue. This will surely affect Sebastian's run as well. Meanwhile Mercedes has already completed the number of laps which Ferrari will do all day.

merc engineers confirmed this is there real car, they were just checking some systems with that other car last week, they probably knew their rocket car was ahead of the curve but wanted to hide details for as long as they could, ferrari has some work to do, theres some time till melbourne so thats good, hopefully we can bring more updates and fixes for the cooling issues

    ----

[AMuS] Mercedes has built a transition-car for 4 days to get some mileage and check systems. The car is seen today in Test Week 2.

Mercedes engineers: "We wanted to get our Melbourne specification ready as late as possible, but still early enough to test it."

Mercedes engineers: "Compared to the presentation car, every aerodynamic surface has changed."

According to Mercedes there is not a single aero part, that hasn't been changed. This spec will also be used at Melbourne.

I wonder it would be better to change the run plan and give Charles the full day.

So after a not so fruitful 1st session, the doom and gloom squad are panicking and will probably hand the titles to Mercedes if they were in charge.

So predictable! They are as predictable as Mercedes who will downplay their chances and say Ferrari are miles ahead to boost Lewis ego some more when he eventually wins the title

People over at F1 Technical are saying that Hamilton didn't cut the chicane in Sector 3.

Hamilton's sector 3 time is within the realm of reasonable. It's 0.596 seconds faster than his best qualifying time from last year, and only 0.429 faster than Ric's who had the best. Given 9 months of development, different tires and weather conditions, it's possible, unless someone has actual proof he cut the chicane.
Autosprint also saying that it was a genuine S3 time.

ominous as someone said before, after merc singapore pace/melbourne pace which is heavy DF and s3 is most slow cornering , its def possible for them

I dont know about if Hamilton did not cut the chicane. He was on C2 tiers, and his other sectors were slower. Also, improving half a second per sector, plus, if you compare with Gasly, Hamster was a full second faster on a step harder tier. If you compare with last years Ricciardo's time, they were super softs, so 2 steps harder. Keep in mind that this years tiers are a step softer, so lets say he had a .6 of an advantage in the tier compound, which is about .2 per sector, what they are saying is .6 second improvement, plus, this year, the change in regulations should be slower 1.5 second, lets say 1 second slower over a lap, so 1/3 of a lap, would .333 second, so Mercedes improved 1 seconds from last years best time from Red Bull????
