Is this the first a year a music concert is organized at COTA F1 GP? Don't remember any previous years.
They've had one every year. I was there for 2012 (first year....V-8 era....Schumi retired that yr with MB). Last year was Tay-Tay (Taylor Swift) which was huge.
What really blew me away other than the F1 cars and the historics (F1) was: Monaco has it's yachts.....COTA has it helicoptors. I think I counted 20 at one time of the wealthy being "shuttled in" in from Bergstrom International and nearby towns landing 4 at a time nearby the track. In San Marcos, which has a small airport there were at least 2 Gulfstreams and smaller private jets.
Heres a twitter page of Austin360 featuring COTA and events and pics. Its a very eclectic music town with diverse cultures and "techies." I love it.
check it out if you got the time.

Austin is a great city. Tiny but fun. I had a good time there in 2012 but I prefer the rest of Texas if you know what I mean.
Also sucked that I couldn't carry at the track or in bars.
More COTA prep today....

Hartley favourite to replace Gasly at Toro Rosso in Austin
Brendon Hartley is the leading contender to drive for the Toro Rosso Formula 1 team in the United States Grand Prix, with Sebastien Buemi the back-up option, Motorsport.com has learned.
Toro Rosso needs to fill the seat alongside Daniil Kvyat at Austin after it was agreed Pierre Gasly would return to Super Formula to contest for the title in the finale on the same weekend.
It is understood Toro Rosso team principal Franz Tost wants to use Austin as an opportunity to evaluate a new driver as he weighs up his 2018 driver line-up.
Gasly is favourite to get one of the seats, having impressed in his appearances in Malaysia and Japan for the team, but Tost and Red Bull are less certain about the second seat.
Hartley has emerged as the frontrunner to drive at Austin, with Tost believed to be open to the possibility of the New Zealander racing for the team next year.
The 27-year-old held the role of Red Bull's official reserve driver in 2009 and 2010 and completed one test for Red Bull in 2008 and two for Toro Rosso in 2009 before being dropped from Red Bull's junior programme.
Hartley also took part in a young driver test at Magny-Cours for Mercedes in 2012, as well as spending time in the team's simulator.
He has enough superlicence points to race in F1 but is currently contracted to Porsche and competing in the World Endurance Championship, where he could win the title this weekend at Fuji.
In addition, it is also believed he is close to a deal to race for Chip Ganassi in IndyCar next year, meaning there are contractual issues to be ironed out before his Austin appearance can be confirmed.
With that in mind, Toro Rosso and Red Bull have lined up Buemi, who raced for Red Bull's junior team between 2009 and 2011, to step in if a deal for Hartley cannot be agreed.

Hartley has a title in WEC so it would be nice to give him a chance in F1.
Can't wait to see how he does...

Well, this was pretty much expected to be honest. It would've been a bit weird if Alonso left McLaren now when they switched to Renault power and we know how much he loves Renault. I even think Renault might not treat McLaren as a regular customer but as a pretty good partner, at least till Renault make their chassis competitive. But of course, he can forget about that third WDC.
By the way, any information on how many years he signed for?

Seems like dry quali & race under 30deg track temp. Could be cloudy but track temp would be high.
