So nothing is signed and sealed if you read the rumour, did Leo Turrini not also say our car was rubbish and we needed a B spec in Spain? Seb is looking for a new contract so makes sense he is going to be speaking to the top teams as it gives him more bargaining power.

1. Seb didn't expect that Ferrari would be too strong this year & he can be in title contention.
2. There is also another possibility When mercs seat was open during that time mercs contacted seb. Where seb might have thought if ferrari coudln't produce a winning car he can jump to mercs in 2018 (may be he committed to mercs for 2018 not officially just on words) as he's already committed to ferrari for 2017.
3. For the above 2nd case, may be seb was thinking to negotiate with ferrari for high perks & 2nd ferrari seat for 2018 by saying he has another option at Mercs if not ferrari. (bear in mind high chances of kimi too would be replaced for next year, as Vet doesn't want any strong driver to beat him)
i strongly believe on 2nd & 3rd cases.

These guys do these deals a year in advance since the rest of the year is focused on racing; Yes, it will change IF Seb wins. He is just keeping his options open....smart if you ask me as he wants to win in a winning car since his departure from RB and he has the talent and credibility to market himself.

Lot of factors playing around. Any driver would want to be in championship winning car. So before 2017 seb may have thought in that way. All of sudden ferrari being competitive, title contention playing around his mind now. So negotiation will be on after summer break.
Ferrari knew that would be competitive this year and because of that do not fear any driver leaving the team and has made talks with some of them. Mercedes will be less competitive next year as the engines will be more open to changes. If Vetel is talking with Mercedes that is a wrong move and he knows that. The only reason he is doing that is that he wants to make Ferrari make the deal with him as soon as it possible.
This season is starting to remind me of the 2000 season.... rumors of MS leaving to McLaren, closely fought battle between Ferrari and McLaren going down to the wire....

As for Seb going to Merc,Im pretty sure that he goes nowhere .Turrini just remembered that someone told him in preseason test (3 months ago) that Lauda said that they have and agreement with Seb.And in the end he says that now that Ferrari surprisingly are so strong ,things might change.
To me all this is just pure journalism.
I also remember an interview of Toto back then and he had said that Seb is so loyal and that there is nothing between them!!!

Barcelona track is tough on its tyres. Also Pirelli suggested hard tyres for this race, its very interesting.
Mercs Suffer on Hard tyres + last sector pretty much sum's it up with the front end tyre degradation.
So definetly ferrari have a better chance in race, untill n unless if mercs pulls up some miracle by solving its tyre issues.
