How can you know this? Looking at the car and with what vettel just said this afternoon one can deduce that the car is not running at full configuration because they are still experimenting with engine mode

    16:23 Verstappen has finished his long stint. The lap times on medium: out-lap - 1: 29.0 - 1: 28.5 - 1: 29.2 - 1: 29.6 - 1: 29.8 - 1: 30.2 - 1: 30.1 - 1: 30.3 - 1: 30.8 - 1: 31.2 - 1: 30.8 - 1: 30.7 - 1: 31.0 - 1: 31.1 - 1: 31.4 - 1: 31.7 - 1: 32.2 - 1: 32.4 - 1: 32.0 - 1: 32.2 - 1: 32.2 - 1: 32.6 1: 33.5 minutes - Inlap ,
    16:26 Also Ricciardo has completed his last endurance test: out-lap - 1: 29.8 - 1: 29.7 - 1: 29.8 - 1: 29.7 - 1: 30.0 - 1: 29.8 - 1: 29.7 - 1: 30.0 - 1: 29.8 - 1: 29.7 - 1: 29.8 - 1: 30.1 - 1: 29.7 - 1: 29.8 - 1: 30.2 - 1: 30.0 - 1: 30.1 - 1: 37.8 - 1: 35.4 - 1: 30.8 - Inlap. A fairly constant long run, apart from the two outliers in the end. Maybe the traffic due.
16:40 Vettel decides to get into the box. Ferrari planning to make an engine evolution for Aus GP, confirmed by Haas.
As a side note, my personal opinion, car is definitely a good base, but still quite some margin below Mercs. Chassis is following the right direction. Interesting to see what developments Ferrari brings in the following days.

    F1 show biz 2016 :
Toto - "Ferrari are a real threat" .... Nico - "Awesome, everything is just awesome" .....Lulu - "Mental strength man, lifestyle man, I'll drive at 400% as ever man".... and then suddenly a wild Bull out of nowhere slams into a Ferrari.

11:20 An interesting nugget revealed by Gene Haas - the Ferrari engine spec being used in testing at present isn't the Melbourne one - an 'evolution' is planned before then:

OK, heres what I found on the slots on the merc..very interesting..

Having completed more than the targeted mileage on the first day of testing, and actually topping their mileage record from any test session since the introduction of the current engine regulations, Mercedes are again one step ahead of the competition as they have already started to add new aerodynamic components on their car, a single day after the W07 debut.

Named the W-floor by Mercedes, the area ahead of the sidepod now features a number of serrated horizontal and vertical panes, all aimed at directing or contioning airflow towards the rear of the car. The more conventional layout here is to have a barge board, which is a solid vertically standing panel that guides air away from the centreline of the car, and around the sidepods. The thing is that with sidepod undercuts becoming so thorough and smooth, that there is less need for such a panel, forcing teams into the investigation of other things to put in this - largely unregulated - area.

So, instead of pushing air outboard, the 6 new panels allow for air to bleed through the system, into the low pressure area that is behind the "combined bargeboard". The interesting bit here is that each vertical panel attached to a seperate forward extension of the floor. And just like with the vertical items, this used to be a single, continuous panel of carbon fibre.

However, as air is flowing outboard in this area, the slight curve in the floor extensions help "fetch" some of that air, and push it underneath the floor, where it will be worked further downstream by the diffuser to create efficient downforce all over the car's floor.

Judging the complexity of the elements, it looks unlikely that many teams will be able to copy this rapidly, but one can wonder if this is the beginning of the end for the traditional barge boards that have existing on F1 cars for numerous years.

To all those who are in doom and gloom, I understand your frustation, but remember this- sooner or later Ferrari is going to catch up to the competition. They are committed to do that, or else they wouldn't have made Ferrari an independent entity. The whole Ferrari is based on F1 business, so they will make necessary changes to bring in the dominance of 2000-04.

I don't, so maybe you can explain it to me. What were people expecting, that we'd do 500 laps in a single day and set lap times three seconds faster than anyone else on the same rubber? By any sensible standard things are looking good so far.

Have we closed the gap to Mercedes and if so by how much? Can't tell yet and we won't know until a few races into the season. But there's no reason for doom, gloom and frustration at this stage.

There is nothing that cannot be copied from an F1 car; most often regulation and no in-season testing delays copying.

Could be one of those out of fuel tests that Ferrari usually do during winter testing.

Well good 4 ya den, but I for one won't take dat Ferrari have closed on Mercs that soon. Still, there is some encouraging steps in the the things that are going inside the the factory. We will remove our weakenesses sooner than later. BUt as far as being on pole for Melbourne I have some some doubts about it.

He stopped at turn 3, they misjudged the fuel by almost a full lap? C'mon now obviously something happened, but it wasn't due to a shortage of fuel.

On Vettel stopping - This good and if it is engine related running this long (127 laps) would have tested the engine to its limit. I hope they can find reason quickly tonight so that Kimi can put more mileage to the car tomorrow

127 laps is not near the limit of an engine that should last four races...
