Bernie charged with bribery in Germany

    http://au.finance.yahoo.com/news/ecc...060701300.html

German prosecutors on Wednesday indicted motor-racing magnate Bernie Ecclestone on a bribery charge, but the 82-year-old has refused to resign as Formula One boss, despite facing a trial.

The 82-year-old could face a prison sentence after being charged by Munich prosecutors in relation to a $44 million (33.6 million euro, £29 million) payment he made to German banker Gerhard Gribkowsky which was linked to the sale of the Formula One rights in 2006.

It will definitely be a very difficult time for Bernie.

I cannot see him keeping out of trouble and jail with regards to these charges. He might get minimal jail time because of his age, but if convicted his time as ringmaster of F1 is over.

I've got to say that this is a very bad time for this to happen not just for Bernie but everyone else included. With a change of regulations taking place from next year, Pirelli still yet to be officially renewed, Concorde agreement yet to be signed, stock still yet to be floated and no successor in place apparently this will cause a lot of mess. It's important that he is allowed to conclude these significant remaining tasks.

It doesn't surprise me at all! And I think the time has come to get him out.

Bernie charged with Bribery! Can it be that Bernie's house of cards are ready to fall??? What twisted webs we weave. Some more strings will be pulled before it is over. Time will tell

Can't believe the man has managed to avoid this type of trouble for so long, you don't get that rich by playing by the rules. Anyone who has read 'No Angel' would probably agree...it just doesn't add up.

Sorry but i cannot agree, i would rather have a season of sorting out the future of a healthy F1 than the damage of of another couple of years with Bernie's involvement to the determent of F1.

In the long run F1 without him can only be healthy. And yes he did bring and was responsible for a lot of good and stability in F1. But the good out ways the damage he has and can do in the future.
